The International Wine of the Month Club already had three pretty great wine clubs to choose from, but they outdid themselves and just introduced a new monthly club! We were lucky enough to get a sample delivery from their latest addition, The Bold Reds Wine Club. Customers who live for robust, rich, red wines will definitely want to check this one out. It's reasonably priced at $46.95 + $13 shipping, so you can enjoy two new full-bodied reds from around the world each month.
Your membership also includes detailed tasting notes, food pairing suggestions and information about the winery or region the wine came from. They want you to enjoy the wine as much as possible, so they provide an optimal serving temperature and aeration time to help guide you when you're ready to unscrew the cork. One unintended side effect of this wine club is that you might end up learning a little about a new wine every month!
You won't find any "filler" bottles in this club. Every wine has been hand-selected by the team of wine experts at the International Wine of the Month Club for its flavor, vineyard reputation and rarity. These estate-bottled wines represent everything a good red should posses. This is a great club to give as a gift because you know your recipient will get two quality bottles every month, and you can prepay for a set number of shipments. It's also a great gift for yourself -- who doesn't want to open up a box with delicious bottles of wine inside every month?
The bottles come securely packaged in recyclable cardboard with plenty of reading material to help you get oriented with your new arrivals.
Our shipment included a 2012 Terrer d’Aubert Tarragona Cabernet Sauvignon from Spain and a 2014 Centonze Nero d’Avola from neighboring Italy.
We did a bit of research, and we were pleased to find that the Terrer d’Aubert Cab is a great find! It averages about $30 a bottle, and it was given an excellent score of 92 points by Wine Spectator. The Nero d’Avola ranks well for being a relative rare find here in the U.S. While on the lower end of the price scale at around $16 per bottle, you may not find it stocked in your local grocer or wine shop. It hasn't received as much attention as the Cab, but it's definitely worth not overlooking. We love a good underdog, so we uncorked the Nero d'Avola and gave it the recommened 20+ minutes of aeration time to reach it's full flavor potential.
After (im)patiently waiting, we were delighted to find that the Nero d'Avola delivered crisp and rich dark berry notes. We were met with delightfully clean and confident tannin flavors that weren't overpowering. This would be a delicious addition to a classic Italian dish like a Sicilian pizza or spaghetti and meatballs.
If you enjoy good red wines, we think you should give The Bold Reds Wine Club a chance to introduce you to new international flavors from a wide variety of vineyards. We hope you'll love them as much as we do! The International Wine of the Month Club backs all of their shipments with their 100% satisfaction guarantee. If for any reason you're not completely satisfied with your delivery, just let them know and you can get a replacement or refund.
